Delays in Approving Medical Marijuana Patients in Florida

Updated: Mar 28, 2020

Since the new Amendment 2 Legislation, giving state certified MMJ Doctors and patients access to cannabis as medicine, we face some challenges.

Check out this helpful info-graphic with the exact information you need to get approved for medical marijuana in Florida!

In 2017 over 50,000 new patients have been granted MMJ cards, but theres heavy delays in approving new medical marijuana patients in Florida to date.

Some people have already been to their doctors, paid their registration fees and up-loaded all the necessary documentation needed by the Office Of Medical Marijuana Use in Florida. Still they wait, and wait, and wait some more, for no apparent reason, right?

The OMMU claims that the delays are due to the federal laws prohibiting them from taking cannabis related money through the banks. Meaning new MMJ patients must snail mail a check for the $75 fee, then they deposit it and when it clears, your approved. At least that's in theory!

We have found that after your check is mailed, you need to call the OMMU (850) 245-4657, more than once too. You may need to call until you get someone helpful willing to look up your file and move it along.

It does seem like they are getting it together a bit more. A friend went to the doctor 1.5 months ago and just got his approval email yesterday. This system should obviously be instant, but the schedule 1 drug tag that cannabis has, prevents us from utilizing normal money moving systems, like the banks.
